In the celebrity world, appearances count for a great deal and there are many individuals willing to undergo surgery if they think it will help them acquire fame or keep the fame they have already have. You can’t flick through a celebrity magazine or tabloid newspaper without seeing a picture of a celebrity who has had a nose job or breast implants. It seems that the people who inhabit Hollywood believe it is completely normal to pay for a facelift or liposuction and may even see it is an investment. As far as they are concerned, the older they get, the harder it becomes to find work, which is where plastic surgery comes in.
Unfortunately, celebrities don’t seem to realise that they usually look worse after having surgery. Indeed, you wonder why so many celebrities decide to have surgery in the first place when there have been so many disastrous results in the past. Most people won’t remember Michael Jackson purely for his music, but also for how plastic surgery transformed his whole appearance and not in a good way! There are many other celebrities who have had a nip here and a tuck there, though most won’t admit to it. However, you only have to see their wrinkle-free face to know they’ve had work done.
It seems celebrities have more money than sense. They get hooked on fame and believe that the only way they can hang on to that fame is to remain forever-young. When they start to look their age they may not be able to get the kind of parts they want, as directors seek out fresh, young talent. Older celebrities start to feel insecure about their looks and the fact that job offers are no longer forthcoming. As soon as they disappear from the public consciousness they lose their sense of purpose. Even though celebrities may proclaim they dislike the fame aspect of their career choice, in reality most revel in it.
Celebrities see their friends and rivals having surgery and they become convinced they need work done, too. They may go and see a few surgeons who all recommend a list of procedures that they need to have done. A celebrity can go in wanting to have liposuction only to end up having a facelift, cheek implants, a nose job and a range of unnecessary procedures. Plastic surgery is big business in Hollywood, as surgeons play on celebrities’ body insecurities and exploit their vanity. Despite some of the less-than-impressive results, there are plenty of celebrities who are prepared to have plastic surgery, afraid that if they fail to conform to their peers their fame will dissipate.
