Knowing When it's Time to Lose Weight

There never seems to be a right time to lose weight, because you know that to lose weight you are going to have to change your routine. Humans are creatures of habit and so modifying your eating patterns and exercise habits can be a challenge, which is why it is tempting to simply put off addressing your weight. However, you cannot ignore the problem forever, because the chances are that, eventually, your weight will catch up with you, affecting how you feel about the way you look as well as your health.

What do the scales tell you?
One of the first ways that people come to realise that it’s time to lose weight is when they step on the scales. When you’re overweight and not in the mood to do anything about it, you may decide to avoid the scales. One day, though, you will decide you have to get on the scales and if you see a figure that is much higher than you were expecting, you can suddenly find the determination to lose weight. You may choose to consult the Body Mass Index (BMI), ass this can help you determine how overweight you are.

Are your clothes getting tighter?
You may be able to avoid stepping on the scales when you’re carrying too much weight, but you cannot ignore the fact that your clothes no longer fit. If your clothes are getting tighter, it may be an indication that you need to lose weight. If you don’t, you will find yourself with a wardrobe of clothes that no longer fit and you may have to go on a shopping trip to buy some new ones in a larger size, which is never a fun experience.

Are you struggling to do everyday activities?
If you get out of breath when walking down the stairs and hardly ever leave the house because of your weight, then clearly it is time for you to do something about your weight. If you’re so heavy that you are gasping for air whenever you move and your joints are aching, this is not a good sign. Your heart has to pump blood around a much larger body than it should have to and this strain is eventually going to affect your health in a negative way.

Do you like the way you look?
Vanity surely is not as important as being fit and healthy, but if you don’t like the way you look, this can undermine your self-esteem and leave you feeling depressed. If you don’t like what you see when you look in the mirror because you’re carrying too much weight, it is within your power to change your eating and exercise habits so that you can shed a few pounds and improve your appearance.

Lose weight for your own well-being
You won’t reach your weight loss goal overnight and so you need to have patience so that you can get there in the end. You therefore need to want to lose weight for your own sake and focus on how weight loss will benefit you in the long run, as this will help you to keep going until the end so that you will be able to appreciate your slimmer self.
